True and total diversity, equity and inclusion. The comms industry must achieve it to reach its maximum potential. Many have the intent to do so. Few have notably moved the needle.
This eBook, ColorComm: A Decade of Difference-making, is an educational and inspirational celebration of a trailblazing leader and organization who have spent the past decade – and will surely spend the next 10 years and beyond – facilitating real progress, impacting an entire industry in the process.
In May 2011, Lauren Wesley Wilson, in her mid-20s at the time, convened 34 women over lunch at a Washington, D.C. restaurant. Her motivation: When she looked around at people running the PR industry, she didn’t see any females of color in senior-level positions.
A group just shy of three dozen women is now a community (a network) of 100,000 and counting. A lunch series is now a more-than-viable business that has grown and evolved beyond what anyone, including Wilson, could have expected.
The PR industry has made progress on DEI. Words of commitment have become tangible action more than ever before. However, much still needs to be done.
This eBook is a worthy testament to and celebration of ColorComm, a still-very-young organization whose vast accomplishments in changing an industry are only surpassed by what it will survey achieve in the near and distant future.
